Honolulu Church of Light Ceremonies by Rev. Alice Inoue
Introducing Rev Rick Sterling
Rev. Alice and Rev. Rick are ministers of the Honolulu Church of Light located in Kalihi Valley, Honolulu, Hawaii. Both are licensed to perform wedding ceremonies in the state of Hawaii. To work directly with Rev Rick, please email him at revrick@kirael.com.
Message from Alice regarding your ceremony: It is important to me that your ceremony is exactly the way you want it. I can do it the traditional way, or we can create a ceremony just for you. It can be short or long, casual or formal — my understanding is that it is your ceremony and must be conducted in a manner that is perfect for you.
I can perform non-denominational, Christian, Buddhist (san-san-kudo), Spiritual and mixed or multi-denominational ceremonies as well as vow renewals, ceremonies that involve your children and second marriages. I will offer you different vow options to choose from (see downloadable documents below) and help you to structure your ceremony so that it fits you. If you want to light unity candles, do a sand ceremony, have a friend read a poem, present leis to your parents, or surprise your future spouse with a song in the midst of the ceremony (!!!), we can make it flow effortlessly and seamlessly.
Your Wedding Ceremony
Once you have reserved your wedding date and time with me, and you are comfortable with my policy (see below), please review the downloadable documents.
Ceremony Sequence: This describes the flow of my ceremonies however you can adjust it in any way you are most comfortable.
Vow Options: You are welcome to choose any of these vows or use these ideas as a base to create your own.
The Gift of Your Hands: This is a poem you have the option of choosing that I have had much success with.
Questionnaire: This is what I base your entire ceremony on. Please have this filled out and sent to me at least a month before your ceremony.
At the four month mark, after I have confirmed my services for your ceremony, we can make an appointment to meet for a 30 minute consultation at my office on Ward Avenue to go over your ceremony preferences.
Should I not be able to confirm, and you desire to have Rev. Rick perform your ceremony, then you would have your consultation with him. If you choose to have Rev. Rick to do your ceremony, then you can contact him to schedule your consultation at any time.
If you would like to understand my personality and presence prior to reserving my services, please view the video “Who is Alice?” on the home page of this site.
My Policy
In recent years, my long term calendar has become a bit harder to pin down due to my increased commitments so I have invited Rev. Rick Sterling to be part of my team as my “back-up” minister. He has been training with me to perform wedding ceremonies since he was ordained as we have the same philosophy and spiritual background. He has adopted the same format, uses the same forms and the same ceremony options that I offer to all my brides and grooms. I did this so that those who requested my minister services would feel safe in knowing that they would have a minister secured for their special day no matter what.
If you are interested in booking me for your wedding ceremony, I am not able to give you a final confirmation if your wedding day is over 4 months into the future. I am however, able to reserve the time and day for you (if no one else has reserved that same day and time) and then give you a final confirmation as we get to that four month point.
If you make a reservation with me prior to the 4 months, I will honor your request and do everything I can to schedule around your day. However, at the four month mark, should I not be able to confirm, Rev. Rick will be available to perform the ceremony (if you desire his services) as he will be holding the time and day for you as a back up for me, using the same documents, flow and pattern that I would be using. I chose to do this to alleviate any anxiety that you may have about “not finding a minister” should I not be able to commit at that point.
If you do not desire to have Rev. Rick perform your ceremony at that point, I will refer you to any number of my colleagues to make sure you have a perfect minister for your ceremony. I will personally follow through to make sure that you secure a minister that you are comfortable with.
I do not take deposits — I hold the day for you if you have reserved it. Payment received before the ceremony is preferred (e.g. at the rehearsal) unless you have someone taking care of handing out payment on the day of your ceremony. I accept cash, check as well as payment by credit card that can be taken care of the week of the ceremony.
To check the availability of your wedding day: Please email Rev. Alice at revalice@kirael.com. She needs your wedding date, time and location, or as much information as you have at this point. At the four month mark, after all is confirmed she will contact you to set up a time to meet at her office to go over your ceremony. Her office is located at 320 Ward Avenue, Suite 101, Honolulu, Hawaii 96814. DOWNLOADABLE DIRECTIONS
