Reverend Rick Sterling

At the age of 19, I experienced a life-changing spiritual awakening, during which I learned to find inner peace and wisdom by accessing higher spiritual wisdom. Since that time, I have honed my intuitive skills and have been able to help others see that their lives have a higher purpose.

In August 2007, I was ordained as a minister by the Honolulu Church of Light, a non-denominational spiritual organization, where my father, Kahu Fred Sterling, is senior minister. I am now licensed to perform weddings in the state of Hawaii.

The Honolulu Church of Light is based in Honolulu, Hawaii, and nestled in the beautiful green Kalihi valley. Besides our in-house congregants, most of the people who frequent our church connect to us through the Internet at www.kirael.com, where we stream live audio and video church services and a weekly live Internet radio program, The Great Shift with Kahu Fred Sterling. People from around the world listen to what we have to share.

My Beliefs
I believe great wisdom exists in all beings and that we should honor our differences, which is why I have chosen to be a non-denominational minister and not a follower of any one religion. I choose to evolve with every opportunity by expanding my own knowing through my interaction with others. With an open heart, I offer my energy and my passion to those who seek my counsel.

Why I Chose this Path
I became a minister to bring comfort and aid to others wherever and whenever I can. I have taken an oath of confidentiality and offer my counsel while honoring that oath. One of my favorite duties is to perform marriage ceremonies. I consider it a privilege to help couples create a beautiful, sacred, meaningful and joyous ceremony.

For couples who practice no particular religion or who come from different religious backgrounds, I work with you to find the right words and an appropriate ceremony that will bridge your differences, whatever they may be, and will best capture your vision of your life together as a couple. I look at the marriage ceremony as not just the union of two people, but the union of two distinct souls as one unit, where differences are celebrated, rather than resisted, the first step in building a relationship of mutual understanding and respect.

As part of the spiritual nature of our church, the marriage ceremony includes a blessing thanking the universe for bringing the couple together in the highest light of their journey together.

Your Wedding Ceremony
If you have reserved your wedding date and time with me, please review the downloadable documents below and return the questionnaire to me via email or at the address at the bottom of the form. Rev. Alice and I follow the same format to gather information, so even though you may have initially met with her, if I am performing your ceremony, rest assured that it will flow in the same way.

Ceremony Sequence: This describes the basic flow and order of the ceremony. Please feel free to adjust it in any way that you desire.

Vow Options: These sample vows can be used as is or as a foundation to create your own.

The Gift of Your Hands: This is a popular poem that you may want to use as part of your ceremony.

Questionnaire: Please fill this out and send it to me at least a month before your wedding day so I can create the perfect ceremony for you. Keep a copy for your records.
