To stay with the same school of feng shui and not get confused, you always want to look for books that mention “Grandmaster Lin Yun”, BTB Feng Shui (Black Sect Tantric Buddhism), Black Hat Feng Shui as it’s sometimes called or Black Sect Feng Shui. The majority of the books you find on the shelves will be of this teaching and of this school.
The other main category of feng shui books is Compass School, which if you put one into the mix, will confuse you and you will get frustrated.
No matter what school’s teachings you decide to follow, it’s important to only follow one school. Neither is better, neither is more effective as there are many ways to climb the same mountain. I chose Black Sect because it made the most sense to me, is the easiest and least confusing to follow and because I get excellent results with it and most importantly, it works.
When I originally started learning to do this professionally, I decided that if Black Sect didn’t work for me, I would learn the Compass School, but there has been no need in my case as I this school of feng shui and it’s teachings totally resonate with me. Following are a few of the books of the dozens that I have, that I particularly like.
There are so many good books but these just happen to stand out the most to me of all that I have in my collection.
Feng Shui for Dummies by Daniel David Kennedy
This is a great reference book that has everything. It is very complete and thorough. If you are serious or even not so serious, this is a great place to start and has all you need for all the school teachings in a straightforward way. It’s a must have.
Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life by Karen Rauch Carter
This is a fun book that describes all the areas of the bagua and what to do. It’s light hearted yet easy to follow and has some good ideas. The author’s humor makes it quite “modern”. It’s light reading and a fun way to dabble into feng shui and the bagua.
Feng Shui—The Chinese Art of Placement by Sarah Rossbach
This book is considered one of the classics – the author is one of Grandmaster Lin Yun’s original students and the American credited with being the most responsible for introducing feng shui to the western world. This book provides more of a history and intro to the concepts vs. hands on detailed “how-to” book.
Feng Shui and Health by Nancy Santo Pietro
An excellent book and breakthrough work where you can see how our living and working spaces are directly connected to our actual physical well being. It’s easy to understand, thorough and fascinating. A bit more advanced concepts and theories but still interesting how she ties feng shui to the chakra systems and more.
